Willard Drug Treatment Center- To Help Convicts Lead A Drug-Free LifeAll the criminals and offenders who take drugs and commit crimes as a result of this habit are sentenced to imprisonment. There is an exclusive state prison for these convicts located in Seneca County, New York called Willard Drug Treatment Center. The prison provides an opportunity to the drug addict convicts to lead a healthy drug-free life all over again. The drug rehabilitation program of the prison is also designed to cope with the relapse, which may occur. DOCS in association with OASAS (the state Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services) and Division of Parole handle the operations of Willard. This Drug Treatment Campus or DTC was made in 1995 as the new alternative to sentence lower level of parole violators and drug-offenders. Earlier, these convicts were sent to the usual prisons meant for all other law offenders. DTC is an intensive Shock-incarceration style of a residential healing program. The duration of the program is three months. An out patient treatment within the community under the strict vigilance of parole officers follows the program for six months. For addicts, Willard program is not only an official escape from the miseries of a conventional prison, this facility is also a new opportunity for them to understand how they can deal with their addiction. In case, the convict fails to live up to the rules and regulations of Willard's program, the Five Points Prison with tough security is the next place for him. William DTC is another version of a shock incarceration program. The modifications are made in it and the emphasis is laid on the shorter duration of the program. A few restrictions are also introduced related to the physical condition and age of the participant. Both DTC and Shock are run as the healing communities that combine physical exercise, military discipline, education, work and treatment of the substance abuse. Strict disciplinary measures are followed in DTC to keep the convicts under check. The day at Willard begins during the early hours with the process of detoxification. Self-discipline is also emphasized upon. Academics and vocational training follow later during the day. The convicts also complete the given work assignments during this time. Further, convicts learn about healing methods to get rid of their troubled life due to substance abuse. They learn about physical and psychological consequences of substance abuse and the ways they can adopt to copy with anxiety and frustration during their withdrawal period.
